The extraordinary first visit of a Persian ambassador to England in two hundred years and he was a great hit especially with the women-“there is no entertainment given but that he is the main feature.” Mirza Abul Hassan (ca. 1770-1846) remained eight months and this is the first translation of most of the journal he kept. He was accompanied from Teheran by James Morier (1780- 1849) who later made fun of him in his two Haji Baba books.
Margaret Morris Cloake ( ) is an American writer who lived in Teheran for four years and learned Persian. Sir Denis Writght was British Ambassador to Iran from 1961 to 1971.
