Bengal Art
Ashit Paul had been conducting research on Battala for a long time and, in 1983, published a book titled Woodcut Prints of Nineteenth Century Calcutta. While writing the book, he happened to meet a few engravers from Battala who were still alive at the time. His intention was to preserve an art form that had already been extinct for some time.
